Pulse repetition period is the time from the start of one ultrasound pulse to the start of the next one. The factor that most affects this interval is how deep you’re imaging. To capture echoes from deeper structures, the system must wait longer for the echoes to travel to that depth and back before firing the next pulse. Since sound travels in tissue at about 1540 m/s, PRP grows roughly with 2 × depth (there and back). So increasing display depth directly lengthens the listening window, extending the PRP and lowering the pulse repetition frequency.

The other factors don’t set this timing. The thickness of the PZT mainly influences beam characteristics and resonant frequency, not how long the system waits between pulses. Attenuation affects signal strength, not timing. Dynamic range affects how many gray levels are displayed, not the duration between pulses.
